Folded fabric star ornaments are a wonderful addition to your handmade Christmas.
This year feels different, it feels like a year to pull back on consumerism and spread a little more joy. I’ve been putting the focus on handmade and practical gifts and it feels as if the rest of the world is feeling the same pull.
In that spirit, I wanted to give a small gift to the ladies in my local quilting guild and these folded fabric star ornaments were a perfect choice!

I followed a tutorial by Moda Fabrics. They have easy to follow instructions that have great photos step-by-step. The very first star can be a bit confusing but once you figure it out you can knock a lot out quickly.

Materials needed for folded fabric star ornaments:
- (4) 4″ x 16″ fabric strips
- Twine or ribbon
- Wooden Beads (I used these)
- Liquid Stitch

I spent the equivalent of two Hallmark movies and knocked out 26 of these adorable handmade ornaments. Time well spent if you ask me. The ladies loved them and I’ve got a few left to hang on my own tree. Another perk was it was a great way to use up a bunch of scraps!

Another idea for you is of the sentimental sort. One year I folded a bunch of these fabric stars using my late grandpa’s woven shirt scraps (after making a quilt of course) and handed them out to my Aunts and Uncles at our family Christmas. Everyone was so appreciative to have a sentimental gift to hang on their tree.

I truly hope these fabric stars spark some major creativity and help you check off every person on your list with a beautiful handmade gift! Now go grab your fabric, turn on the Hallmark channel, and start folding—I can’t wait to see what you create!
