Fall Jelly Roll Quilt: Clover Fields in Fig Tree & Co

There’s something about a fall jelly roll quilt pattern that just feels like a creative exhale, you know? The colors shift, the cozy season settles in, and suddenly every fabric in your stash with even a hint of pumpkin or harvest gold is calling your name. That’s exactly the energy behind this Clover Fields version, and it might be my favorite one yet.

Angie Franklin of Kay Marie Quilt Co put this beauty together using a jelly roll of Fig Tree & Co.’s Pumpkins & Blossoms collection, and she did something so clever with it that I have to tell you about it right away.

She Made the Blocks Inside Out

The Clover Fields pattern features a block with a defined “clover” shape that emerges from the placement of light and dark fabrics. Angie flipped the value placement, making what’s typically the background the focal point and vice versa. The result is a totally different look from the same exact pattern, and honestly it might make you want to make two versions back to back. It’s one of those happy surprises that reminds you why playing with fabric placement before you sew a single seam is always worth the time.

If you want to try this yourself, a quick tip: pull your fabrics and make one or two test blocks in both the “standard” and “inside out” arrangement before cutting your whole project. Sometimes swapping values creates a completely new quilt, and you’ll know right away which one you love.

About the Fabric

Pumpkins & Blossoms from Fig Tree & Co. is a collection that walks the line between sweet and seasonal without leaning too hard into the spooky Halloween direction. There are soft florals, pumpkin motifs, and warm tones that feel more like an autumn morning than a costume party. It’s the kind of line that works beautifully in a quilt you’d want to leave out through all of October and into Thanksgiving, not just for trick-or-treat night.

If you’re hunting for something similar to pull from your own stash, look for fabrics that mix small-scale prints with tone-on-tone backgrounds. That contrast is what makes the Clover Fields block sing. Fat Quarter Shop usually carries a wonderful selection of fall fabric bundles that would work perfectly here, and precuts make the cutting process so much faster.

How It Came Together

Angie pieced the quilt and then sent it off to Marilyn Carlson for long-arm quilting. The finished size is 57″ x 71″, which is a lovely throw that’s big enough to actually use on cool evenings. The Clover Fields pattern uses simple shapes that are genuinely beginner-friendly, but the secondary design that forms where the blocks come together gives it a complexity that looks like you worked a lot harder than you did. That’s my favorite kind of pattern.
